SMSF Assets Grow Past $1 Trillion

The ATO released the SMSF September quarterly statistical report, which again highlighted the sector's continued growth, with total assets estimated to be over $1 trillion.
The key highlights for the September quarter were:

10,298 SMSFs were established in the quarter (up from 7,004 last year). A 30% increase.

The total number of SMSF’s is now 621,809 SMSFs

The total number of members is now 1,151,619 members

The total estimated assets held in SMSF is estimated to be $1.02 trillion
-
The average SMSF balance is $1,600,000
-
28% of total SMSF assets are held in listed shares and 16% in cash and term deposits.
